Your dashboard is filled with lights to help you figure out if there’s an issue with your vehicle. But what, exactly, do these lights mean? We’ve put together a list of the more common dashboard indicator lights and their meanings to help you decipher what each icon means.

Parking Brake Warning Light

When your parking brake is engaged, you will see this warning light on your dashboard. It should turn off when you release the parking brake. This indicator will also send out a warning chime if you are driving above 10 km/h when the brake is applied.

SEAT BELT WARNING LIGHT

If you or a passenger doesn’t have their seat belts on, this indicator will show on your dashboard. It will also act as a reminder when you first turn the engine start/stop button on, flashing for approximately 6 seconds.

Check Engine Light

Probably one of the most common dashboard indicators, the Check Engine Light will illuminate when a potential issue has been detected somewhere in the emission control system. This can mean anything from an engine leak to your gas cap being put on incorrectly. Should this engine show up, make sure you bring your Genesis vehicle into an authorized Genesis service location.

CHARGING SYSTEM WARNING LIGHT

This symbol typically indicates that there is an issue with your generator or electrical charging system, including your battery or your generator drive belt. Bring your vehicle to Genesis Downtown for service as quickly as possible, as this light can indicate serious problems with your vehicle.
Engine Oil Pressure Warning Light

Should your engine oil pressure become low, this light will illuminate to warn you. Check your oil levels and add oil as required. If the warning light remains on after adding oil, bring your car in for a check-up.

LOW FUEL LEVEL WARNING LIGHT

When your gas tank is close to hitting empty, this indicator will illuminate to let you know that it’s time to fill up.

LOW TIRE PRESSURE WARNING LIGHT

Low tire pressure can affect your driving, making it more difficult to control your vehicle and increasing the chances of a tire blow out. Check your tires when this light turns on and fill them up with air if needed.
